Slush machine not turning is one of the most common problems a slush machine can develop. So what is the problem?
A slush machine not turning is usually a broken Gear Motor, which is fairly easy to replace.
Each spiral, is turned by a Gear Motor. This is a part inside the slush machine that needs to be replaced when they fail.
All slush machines use gear motors which means when you buy a slush machine, you need to be sure you can replacement parts as and when you need them. Our guide to buying a slush machine tell’s you more about choosing the right supplier.
The picture shows you what a gear motor looks like, there will be one motor for each of the bowls.

How to replace a Gear Motor
First diagnose your problem to make sure it is indeed the Gear Motor that has failed.
With the slush machine unplugged, empty the bowl of slush and spin the spiral by hand. If it is very stiff, won’t move at all or judders, it need replacing. If it is turning smoothly it may be ok, your problem could be an electrical connection of faulty switch.
Find a replacement motor. Gear motors differ by manufacturer, you will need to get the correct motor for your model of machine. Ideally you can go to where you bought your machine, otherwise this could be a challenge, search the internet.
Fitting

Gear motors will last longer with a little care:
- Keep the bowl at least half full of slush.
- Choose only top quality Slush.
- Mix the syrup exactly as the manufacturer says, do not over dilute.
- Remove any hard ice from the machine before switching on
